Job Title: Youth Umpire
Department: Youth Programs
Job Type: Part Time 16 hours per week or less
Benefits: This is a non-benefited position
Payrate Range: $35/per game
Supervisor: Youth Sports Supervisor

Essential Job Duties
Youth umpires are responsible for the officiating youth baseball/softball games (ages 9-15) and ensuring the safety of all participants during games.

Job Duties/Tasks
• Interpret and enforce all Sheridan Recreation District youth baseball rules
• Supervise and control conduct on the baseball field
• Ensure the safety of all player on the baseball field
• Assist in helping youth players understand the what and why of rules
• Have a detail knowledge of the rule set
• Provide quality customer service
• Be ready to work at scheduled times
• Follow all policies and procedures set forth by The Sheridan Recreation District
• Fill out own time sheet accurately and turn into supervisor before leaving
• Cooperatively work in a team with other umpires and supervisor
• Attend all games scheduled to work
• Communicate with Recreation Supervisor in a timely manner regarding inability to make scheduled games or with issues what may arise during work
• Willingness to learn from experienced peers

Working Conditions:

• Running/jogging/squatting
• Hot and cold conditions
• Batted and Throw balls

Minimum Qualifications
• Strong leadership skills
• Knowledge about the sport of baseball/softball
• 15+ years old
• Reliable transportation
• Ability to work weeknights and weekends as needed
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Pass a background check “If older than 18”
• Strong communication skills with the ability to deal with children, coaches and the public calmly and diplomatically
• Attend umpire training class with Sheridan Recreation Supervisor
