Seasonal Grounds Worker
 
SCSD2 is seeking motivated individuals to work in a full-time, temporary position starting May 1, 2024 through the summer months.  This position is 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.   
 
HOURLY WAGE:  $14.00
 
QUALIFICATIONS:    
  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  3. Must demonstrate ability to operate and maintain lawn mowing equipment.
  4. Ability to work independently and in small groups.
  5. Must be able to read and understand the English language as it relates to chemical labels and safety instructions.
  6. Able to lift upwards of 50 pounds and bend, lift, and stand for extended periods.         
 REPORTS TO: Direct supervisor
 
JOB GOAL:  To perform basic landscaping and grounds responsibilities such as planting, mowing, pulling weeds, and maintaining the outside appearance of district buildings. 
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Mow lawns and collect any trash, rubbish, and waste.
  2. Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, and ticks.
  3. Sweep and blow off debris from walkways.
  4. Cut down tree limbs that are overgrown or pose a danger.
  5. Notify the repair coordinator of equipment that needs fixed.
  6. Edge, rake, mulch, and prune as needed.
  7. May drive a truck (sometimes with a trailer) to various district locations, ensuring proper storage of equipment during transport.
  8. Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  9. Follow all district safety procedures. Report all accidents/incidents immediately to the supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Upper body strength to lift up to 40 pounds and carry more than 50 feet throughout the workday and lift 75 pounds to waist height.
  2. Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the day or to sit throughout the day.
  3. Ability to work at heights in excess of 10 feet from ladders, catwalks, roof tops, etc.
  4. Ability to use proper PPE when working around or when in contact with items that affect senses (i.e. – chemicals, loud equipment).
  5. Need to be adaptable to varying temperatures and climates encountered outdoors.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  This position is a temporary, seasonal position for the summer.  Employment cannot exceed six months.
