Job Summary:
 
A CMV Driver Training Faculty member plays a crucial role in educating and training students seeking to gain commercial driver licensure. This position focuses on delivering comprehensive instruction, providing mentorship, and facilitating hands-on training to prepare students for successful careers as skilled commercial drivers.

Education/Qualifications:
 
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
 
Collaborate with departmental colleagues to enhance course content, lesson plans, and instructional resources to integrate new technologies, and to update curriculum to reflect advancements in the field and assessment of student learning objectives (SLOs).
Ensure that teaching methods and materials are relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with industry standards, federal and state regulations, CDL examination criteria, and program goals.
Deliver engaging and interactive lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training sessions to students in various aspects of theory and driving skill development and best practices
Emphasize and enforce safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and best practices in vehicle operation and transportation logistics.
Ensure students understand and adhere to state and federal regulations governing CDL requirements, vehicle inspections, and driving standards.
Evaluate students’ understanding and mastery through assignments, quizzes, and practical assessments.
Provide timely constructive feedback to students on their learning progress, skill development, and areas for improvement in preparation for CDL certification.
Offer guidance and support to students regarding academic and career development.
Assist students in understanding licensing requirements, job opportunities, and career pathways within the transportation and logistics industry.
Assist students in understanding and applying theoretical knowledge in practical driving responsibilities and real-world scenarios.
Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes relevant to the commercial driving industry.
Collaborate with industry partners and professional associations to enhance student training and employment opportunities.
Maintain CDL training vehicles and equipment in safe and operational condition.
Coordinate with facilities management to ensure training areas meet safety standards and provide optimal learning environments for students.
Stay informed about industry developments, changes in CDL regulations, and advancements in transportation technology.
Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and training to enhance teaching effectiveness and maintain CDL instructor certification.
Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum and faculty development initiatives, and accreditation processes as requested.
Use of Canvas as a Learning Management System (LMS) is required for all courses. Applicants must have a laptop computer with reliable access WIFI. Faculty must adhere to NWCCD’s Canvas Course requirements while ensuring demonstrable and documented regular effective contact with students.
 
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
 
Must possess physical ability to perform the duties of a licensed commercial driver.
Vision: close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus
Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
Must possess physical ability to perform the typical duties of a commercial driver: kneeling, crouching, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing ladders.
May need to operate materials handling equipment.
May work in environments with moderate or loud noise.
Must be available to meet course training schedule. Schedule may include day, evening, fully online, hybrid (partially online), and/or weekend courses.
Part-time faculty meetings are conducted the week prior to the semester start. Course outlines of record, student learning outcomes to be assessed, and department policies will be provided or reviewed.
May include part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as needed basis.
 
Experience
 
Minimum Requirements
Five years CDL driving experience and valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (e.g., Class A, B, P, S) and a clean driving record.
Strong knowledge of CDL regulations, vehicle operations, safety protocols, and transportation logistics.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively teach and interact with students from diverse backgrounds.
Commitment to promoting learning for all students in both educational and workplace environments.
Ability to adapt teaching methods and curriculum to accommodate different learning styles and educational backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL License and be able to be insured by the College’s insurance provider.
Licensed and ability to operate manual 10 and 13 speed transmissions.
Must provide a current US DOT Medical Certificate provided by a registered medical examiner who is registered in the FMCSA Clearinghouse system.
Must be registered in the FMCSA Clearinghouse system.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and able to participate in random drug screening program as required by FMCSA.
Applicant must provide a Motor Vehicle Record indicating that the applicant’s “Commercial Status” reflects “Licensed.”
Applicant must certify that they were never disqualified from operating a commercial vehicle based on Title 49 —Y Subtitle B Chapter Ill —+ Subchapter B -+ Part 383 —+ Table 1 to 383.51
Must provide proof of minimum five years of CDL driving experience and provide a valid motor vehicle record going back 10 years which must including records from previous states (if applicable)
 
Preferred Experience
Possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL License with one or more of the following endorsements 
o (N) Tank vehicle endorsement.
o (H) Hazardous materials endorsement.
o (X) Tanker/HazMat combination endorsement.
o (T) Doubles/triples endorsement.
o (P) Passenger transport endorsement.
o (S) School bus endorsement.
Strong computer skills
Prior CDL teaching experience or training in vocational education.
Experience with online teaching platforms and instructional technologies for hybrid or online courses
