POSITION SUMMARY
The Fitness & Wellness Coordinator plays a vital support role in executing high-quality fitness programming at the YMCA. Under the direction of the Sr Director of Operations, this position oversees group exercise staffing, leads wellness initiatives, promotes safe and effective programs, and maintains a consistent member-focused presence. This role requires a dynamic leader who can balance instruction, logistics, data, and member engagement. In addition, the Fitness & Wellness Coordinator is responsible for administrative tasks as they relate to program and membership, budgeting, staff supervision and mentoring, collaborative community efforts, facilities and equipment, campaign involvement, grants, sponsorships and planning.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Fitness & Wellness Coordinator is expected to fulfill the following functions:
Group Fitness & Program Development
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and support for Group Exercise Instructors.
  • Lead, implement, and grow engaging, inclusive group fitness classes.
  • Assist in developing and promoting new and existing fitness programs. 
  • Stay current with industry trends to maintain safe and innovative programming.
  • Develop, organize and distribute the Group Exercise Schedule 
Staff Support & Training
  • Provide onboarding, coaching, and performance feedback for group fitness staff.
  • Organize and/or facilitate professional development opportunities related to Group Exercise.
  • Ensure all instructors attain and maintain certifications relevant to their job.
Member Engagement & Wellness Services
  • Assist in providing STYKU body composition scans to members and corporate wellness clients as needed.
  • Serve as a positive and visible presence on the wellness floor to answer questions and engage members.
  • Collaborate, organize and promote Prenatal Workshops two times a year.
  • Data & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of class attendance, participation trends, instructor hours and certifications, and maintenance logs related to equipment
  • Use data to assist the Sr Director of Operations in program evaluation, strategic planning, and budgeting decisions.
Special Initiatives
  • Take lead or assist in the planning and delivery of:
  • Monthly member wellness challenges 
  • Quarterly & holiday fitness events or themed classes
  • Member engagement activities that support retention and community building
  • Support chronic disease programming as needed 
Operational Support
  • Assist with routine inspection and upkeep of fitness equipment.
  • Partner with the maintenance department to troubleshoot safety and mechanical issues and ensure prompt reporting and follow-up.         
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to successfully conduct exercise classes and activities of all types.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment and switch tasks as new challenges and projects emerge
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • At least 1 year of experience teaching or coordinating group fitness or wellness programs.
  • Alarm/Emergency Procedures training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.
  • CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training within 90 days of hire and biannually thereafter.
  • New Employee Orientation within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic computer and mathematical skills for program development, management and appraisal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
