Sheridan County Courthouse - IT Specialist

 

Open Position:  IT Specialist                                          

Department:  Information Technology, Sheridan County

Salary Range: $52,862.88 to $58,350.73, Grade 17, D.O.E.

Job Summary:  This position is responsible for help desk support services for Sheridan County Courthouse departments and for assisting with the day-to-day network and systems maintenance issues.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Diagnose and repair hardware and software issues on workstations and servers.
  • Use Active Directory to create and manage user accounts and group policies.
  • Manage multiple Microsoft 365 tenants under supervision of the IT Manager.
  • Research IT requests from departments to understand and assist IT Manager in proposal of appropriate IT solutions. 
  • Assist in maintenance and configuration of network infrastructure, including performing network switch configuration changes, network cabling, and firewall changes as required.
  • Assist the IT Manager in supporting server systems, including Windows Server, varied Linux operating systems, Hyper-V, WSUS.
  • Maintain the County website; coordinate edits and updates with departmental website editors; provide technical support to department editors when necessary.
  • Maintain organization of IT equipment storage room and associated new and used hardware, prepare retired workstations for recycling.
  • Assist in programming phone PBX system for existing and new employees; help maintain the voicemail functions for departmental extensions.
  • Assist County departments in receiving IT support from outside software vendors under contract to provide support for third-party software.
  • Assist with management of security cameras and security video storage systems.
  • Prioritize and resolve IT requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Advise and guide junior IT staff as necessary. 
  • Manage IT requests, communication, and documentation through use of service request ticketing system.
  • Assist with deployments, upgrades, and management of enterprise IT systems.
  • Maintain file storage and document repositories; create and manage user permissions as    
  • Coordinate, plan, and manage installation of all new workstations, printers and the software required for individual employee and department-wide tasks.
  • Provide help desk support for County workstations located in the Courthouse, Attorney's office, Public Health, Road & Bridge, Sheriff’s Office, and other County entities as          
  • Assist the IT manager in procuring IT hardware and software as required from approved vendors to meet the needs of departments and users.
  • Assist IT Manager with the County’s budget as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of information systems architecture, principles, concepts, and methods.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and network systems, their related security features, capabilities, and vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of the technologies, products, methods, and tools used to create and maintain the desired infrastructure.
  • Skill in troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware and software issues.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with three to five years experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Wyoming for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to pass a Wyoming DCI background investigation as required by the FBI for Electronic Information Security.
