Essential functions of the job include general cleaning of facility and assisting with set-up for activities.

Job Title: Custodian
Supervisor: Director of Operations

Job Summary: General cleaning of the building and keeping it maintained and in good
condition. Clean up spills with appropriate equipment. Perform minor repairs. Notify
supervisor of major repairs.

Essential Job Functions Include:

▪ Responsible for building cleanliness daily - performs duties including, but not limited to:
▪ Floor Care
        o Vacuuming
        o Moving tables in Café, sweeping and mopping
        o Spot carpet cleaning
        o Baseboards
▪ Garbage removal
▪ Restroom cleaning and restocking
▪ Stocking areas with appropriate supplies such as paper towels, soap, toilet paper,
hand lotion, etc. Responsible for storing the necessary supplies in safe areas
▪ Wiping down stainless steel
▪ Some kitchen cleaning
▪ Dusting furniture and woodwork in public areas
▪ Cleaning light fixtures
▪ Washes windows
▪ Cleans chairs as needed
▪ Puts away chairs and tables as needed
▪ Wiping down “high touch” areas
▪ Evaluates and prioritizes cleaning tasks based on need (develops and maintains a
cleaning schedule)
▪ Follows manufacturer instructions for cleaning supplies usage
▪ Works with Activities Department during events to coordinate set-up, cleaning duties,
providing assistance as needed
▪ Adheres to OSHA standards and requirements
▪ Strictly follows the organization’s procedures in case of an accident
▪ Adheres to policy and procedures on confidentiality
▪ Maintains record keeping for the area as required
▪ Works independently and in cooperation with others
▪ Communicates and works with customers and fellow staff members in a respectful
• Assures that safety and customer service are priorities in decision making
• Reports concerns of health and safety regarding the building, an individual or the
program to supervisor immediately
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
• Frequently transfers, lifts items up to 50 lbs. and positions objects
• Constantly bends, squats, walks and reaches
• Often communicates and exchanges information with others
• Regularly observes and assesses areas for quality

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Initiative and ability to work independently
• Able to problem solve and remain flexible as circumstances change
• Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing

Minimum Qualifications:
Possesses a high school diploma and has two years of custodial and/or maintenance experience.
