Job Description
The Controller with play a key role in communications and accounting functions for Whitney Benefits. This is a full-time role that requires skills in standard accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash handling, data entry, and day-to-day bookkeeping. In addition, the position includes Human Resource and Information Technology oversight. The Controller reports to the Whitney Benefits Executive Director and the Board of Trustees. This position makes a difference in improving our community by fulfilling the mission of Whitney Benefits as described by Mr. E. A. Whitney.
Responsibilities (not limited to)
  • Complete all payrolls and budgets.
  • Full cycle management of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Responsible for cash flow controls.
  • Management of all bookkeeping functions
  • Perform month-end revenue and cost recognition process including calculating, preparing and posting journal entries to record revenue and costs incurred according to the principles of GAAP.
  • Responsible for external audit and fiduciary audit compliance.
  • Review and approves tax return.
  • Coordinate with investment advisor and maintain cost basis information for investments.
  • Assist with office administration including Human Resource and Information Technology Management. Troubleshoot any errors or irregularities.
  • Comply with management and Board of Trustees’ requests for documents and other administrative needs.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • 5 years relevant experience; 3-5 years accounting experience.
  • Advanced user of MS Office and QuickBooks.
  • Attention to detail. Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic company environment.
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with all levels within a corporate environment.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills. Proven ability to take initiative, work proactively, and build strong productive relationships.
